24 May 2007. Finally! As I mentioned yesterday, I have this last week mailed 200 lbs of stuff back home and everyone who stopped by my room kept asking when I was going to get busy. Well, I decided I needed to work on the room a little more. Now, I knew where I was in the scheme of things, but to the uneducated eye, it still looked a mess. rounded up all that was going to be thrown away and did so, then gathered everything being given away and boxed it up. Today, no less than 5 people have walked by and looked in while I was there and said it was a dramatic change and actually looked like I was moving in the right direction. Here it is now.Today I spent several hours working on Letters of Evaluation for my Air Force personnel. SSGT G helped me out quite a bit as Air Force forms are different from those of the Army. I have done two other LOE's when my other two where here but still required some help.
The weather has been beautiful the last 5 days with a small cold front coming in. The highs have been upper 70's, lower 80's with the evenings being just perfect.
There was an IED attack yesterday here in Kabul, killing one Afghan National Police Officer. I haven't heard very much else about the situation. This was about 3 km away from our camp, but I'm staying inside the wire.
Be safe and have a great day.

Ha Ha Ha--sorry, I can't help but laugh. To think that is AFTER you've done so much. Sorry--female here.Actually, I can "smell" the anticipation and excitement you and your family have for your return. I am anxious for all of you as well.

ARGH!!!!!! Why am I not surprised that your room still looks like a rat pack? Are you incapable of organization? I remember when you worked in the parts department and you had everything organized and knew where everything was located -- what happened to you? Are you rebelling from your childhood? Did your parents force you to keep a neat and tidy room and now you're letting it all hang out? Why? Why? Why? Between you and MissDub, I'm going to need medication and therapy to deal with the clutter. Please leave it all behind and just get on the plane and come home!

Bwahahahaha! I'm laughing over MrsDub's reaction. Fellow pack rat that I am, I can see the difference. People just don't understand us, do they Dub?

This is cleaned up? Yikes you are very, very messy. Your wife summed it up very well. Throw it all away and get on the plane and get home. Stay safe and God bless.

I think it looks pretty good, myself! Your tennies are lined up nice and straight next to the box and your towel and stuff are hung up...that's more than my husband accomplishes each day!

I am so proud for you and excited for your family that your countdown clock is almost into the "20's"!!!!

Oh, I was going to comment on it looking a mess, but then I looked in my own closet (which is bigger than your room) and realized I couldn't throw any stones.... good job getting it all so organized! :)

I can honestly say that I never had a room in the barracks that looked even close to that - thank goodness!

However, I am an anally retentive perfectionist and cannot abide clutter unlike my 14-year old daughter who has a room that looks eerily similar to yours!

You're getting there Dub.

It's funny. We've been spending every weekend and some weeknights since we moved into the condo doing the organizing, and it still looks like we just moved in! When will the unpacking end????

Wow Sgt Dub, I really can't imagine that you already sent 4 black boxes home. How many more do you think it will take to get completely moved out? Wow. thanks for the pic though it has helped in the comment section alot. Safe passage Callie ann

I don't know what this says about me but before reading all these comments, I was thinking it looked pretty good! I've never been inside a barracks before except via movies/tv so I have nothing to compare it to and on that level, maybe a tad messy. But you can see where everything is and it's all lined up.
Maybe it's because I'm living out of boxes right now and still haven't located the one with our drinking glasses in it. Might be...
Keep your head down, stay safe!!!
~~~Blessings~~~
I just found your blog and giggled reading this post. Sgt. only sent home 2 foot lockers but they were slam packed full and I begged him to purge before he sent anything else. Heaven help if they would have to have been opened for any reason before they arrived home.
He's an Okie, too...but he's a Sooner fan while the rest of his family OSU supporters. Me? I go on whoever is winning at half time.
Be safe.
