19 April 2007, Today is the anniversary of the Murrah Building Bombing in Oklahoma City, this happened twelve years ago. I was at basic training that day and learning about traffic control points. We had heard that morning that a federal building blew up, but nothing more. Most of us from Oklahoma figured a gas line eruption or something along that line. Who knew what we later learned could have occurred. However, another tragedy has happened that has everyone talking. My heart goes out for those students and their families. Lt R is from Virginia so he feels that connection much like I did in Oklahoma.
However, the media of course, is beating this horse as they do every other story they ever get. This is wrong, yes we want answers, but giving this the coverage 24 hours a day until you make people sick isn't the answer we want.
I was reading one of the scrolling messages at the bottom of the newscast and Speaker Pelosi, Sen. Kennedy, Sen. Kerry and other liberals are saying we can't win in Virginia and are demanding the National Guard be pulled out of the state. I'm not sure what they were thinking.
I did 2 1/2 miles after lunch with the 23 pound assault pack, then 4 1/2 miles after dinner this evening. I told the Sergeant Major I'd be calling in sick in the morning. He wants to do at least 6 miles everyday. I'll see if I can hang with him. Everything else went pretty good today. I slept good last night with the exception of waking up from 0100 to 0230. I'm going to take my shower in a little bit and get to bed.
You do know I was kidding about the Pelosi comment, right?
Be safe and have a great day.
I also forgot to mention HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BOTH OF MY SISTERS IN LAW, C.C. was yesterday and L.W. is today.

That is some serious pack-hauling, SgtDub. Best you take care of that back of yours. I'm sure MrsDub has a mess of work for you to do around the homestead when you return, and I don't think a lame back will be acceptable!

I heard a tag line on the radio "that was our continuing coverage of the tragedy in Virginia...."
Continuing? How about continuous. Non-stop. Overwhelming. How many times can a media talking head say the same thing. I would rather listen to static.
Yes, we all agree it is horrid. We all agree that we feel bad for the families and victims. But for God sakes, cover some other stuff.

And for that assinine Barack Obama comparing the "verbal violence" of Don Imus' comment about the Rutgers women's team to the VA Tech killings......I give him not one, but two middle fingers. Shallow, callous remarks like that show the true nature of the man.

I'm with Desert Songbird...No excuses when you get home about not being able to do those honeydos!

It's crazy our there and it's only going to get worse. Appears this nutcase was unhappy about rich folks. Sociopath if you ask me. He really believed it's our fault for what he did.

At least he offed himself and that's a public service. Time served...now he can answer to the big boss in heaven, then an express trip to hell is probably in order! Great piece Sgt. Dub!

Stay safe and God bless :)

I remember exactly where I was on that beautiful spring morning in 1995. I was driving to work, after dropping MissDub at Nana's house. I had just driven over the South Canadian River, when I heard a loud bang. I actually thought someone was shooting at me, so I ducked down. As soon as I looked up, I saw this huge gray cloud of smoke near the downtown area. You could see papers flying in the air. I continued driving north towards downtown and people were coming outside to see what had happened. Windows were blown out and people were just standing around. I encountered a fire truck at an intersection that was just turning on the sirens. The first reports were that a gas line had exploded. It wasn't until I got to work that I realized how serious the situation was. It was devastating. I remember sitting and watching the news and crying and wondering why something like this would happen. I felt so awful that I couldn't contact you to tell you what had happened. I will never forget the picture of Bailey Almon (the baby in the fireman's arms). She was about the same age as MissDub, and all I could do was think about her tiny feet with the little white socks. These were innocent people, just going about their lives - going to work and dropping their kids at day care. My heart aches for the victims and the surivors. I cannot comprehend why human beings can inflict such harm on each other. We must never forget!

There are events in our life where we remember exactly where we were when we heard of them.
For me they are:
JFK assassination
MLK assassination
Challenger Diaster
Oklahoma Building explosion
9/11

Man, that is some heavy pack running. Stay safe

My dad visited the site not long after the explosion and said it was devastating.

My daughter's birthday just so happens to be on 4/20 and I hate that so many sicko's have decided to make that (or the week of) the date to commit these atrocities. My daughter is still too young to understand, but how do explain this as she gets older and make sure it doesn't affect her too much?

Just something I think about.

I loved the liberal comment joke or not. It sounded like something that they would all do. You made me laugh good and hard. I needed that. By the way, did you ever get my email?

Bond's list is too long but I can remember everyone of them, too. I was in H.S. PE class (10th grade) when JFK was shot. We had a foreign exchange student from Iran in our English class that afternoon. I've always wondered if he's still alive, and who's side he's on...
Very good post. Stay safe.
