15 January 2007, Meetings. Happy MLK Day and Happy Funday.
I've been moving from meeting to meeting since 1430 hrs this afternoon. I am sitting in the office now, awaiting yet another meeting that won't happen till 1900 hrs. I'm ready to go back to my room, but why get comfortable when I would just have to get back up. So I wait. (Remember, none of this is stressful, I just like to complain)
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. A remarkable man who would roll over in his grave at the way people are still acting today. I read just the other day that the new Black Panther Party is wanting to start a war with the police and government in Los Angeles. I don't think this was what Dr. King had in mind.
And to Michael at The Wonderful World of Nothing, Happy Funday. Michael is working to change Monday, which very few people like, to Funday. He believes it could revolutionize the way we do business and the way we take off. He has an amazing talent of taking headline stories and running off with them. If you haven't checked out his site before, I encourage you to check it out.
There was an explosion somewhere near our camp today. Every one's best guess at this time was it was an RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade). We believe it was from a negligent discharge by the local police. Yes, back home in the United States, police departments all over the country are striving to find 'less lethal' weaponry, and here in Afghanistan, the police departments issue RPGs. Back home you may get 'tasered', bean-bagged', or 'pepper sprayed'. Here in Afghanistan, if run, you and everything in a 20 meter radius might get destroyed. Hmmmmm.
In other news, January is now almost half way over, and time is still moving at a good pace for us. There's more talk each day about what needs to get done so we can leave. Like I said, July 4th will be my first holiday back home, so you can see we are eager.
I'm going, going, going to get enrolled in my algebra class tomorrow. At least, I think I'll do it tomorrow. 1SG R is needing to take the class also, and we think we could work together to get through it. This one will be on post, so I won't have the internet class problems I had this last time.
I did my cardio workout this morning, and had a subway sandwich for lunch. I am heading to dinner in a few minutes, since I have the next meeting in the DFAC, I'll just eat before that starts. Be safe and have a good day.

Again, lalalala you're giving me too much information and not the right kind. I don't want to hear that there was an explosion. I do want to hear that you're coming home. By the way, do your readers know that you've got a birthday coming up this month? January 31!! I'll be glad when you finally catch up to me. Actually, if I don't count the 2 birthdays you've been gone, then we should be even. Stay safe and get enrolled . . . or else!

Great idea sarge, If you guys used RPG's here do you think the crime problem would lessen, I do.

Check out my new blog, a young man in Indonesia reworked it for me. Looks good to me.

Stay safe.............

Appreciate the pictures of Afghanistan in the winter. If the pictures didn't have that guy holding the rifle it might be mistaken for a scene in Oklahoma right now!

You're right, Dr. King would have been appalled at the Black Panthers. He would also have been appalled that some in Congress would have considered repealing the Voting Rights Act. He would have been appalled at Sen. George Allen and his racist words and past racist actions. He would have been appalled at the racial profiling that has gone on in this country and the strong anti-Muslim sentiment that we are indulging as a culture. He would have been appalled that the New York police needed fifty bullets to bring down an unarmed man.

Yep, you're right. Dr. King would have been appalled.

I had a wonderful tribute to Dr. King planned for today, but my dear sweet friend Anndi lost her mother on Sunday, so I will post tomorrow. Dr. King was a remarkable man... a man who only wanted ALL men and women to be equal and not to be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Didn't realize until I read Mrs Dubs remarks that you were a January baby too. My b-day is Wednesday... but I'm not telling anybody... LOL I'll be 29 and holding...LOL in case I forget, Happy Birthday Sarge.

Stay safe

Well, yes Dr King would have been appalled. But I think it's time we were appalled on behalf of Dr King.

Algebra class? Eck ... I hate algebra! It's one of the few courses that stands between myself and my degree and it's going to continue to stand there because the older I get, the less inclined I am to tackle that particular nemesis. Oh well, what would I do with an Associate's Degree anyway? But I hope that you do really, really well in algebra! I'm sure it will make it easier to have a study buddy. Good luck!

Ewww.. good luck with Algebra! Happy MLK Day to you, too. It's too bad his dream is taking so long to come to fruition. Stay Safe.

Hey Sarge!

Thanks for the comments on my blog! Those RPG's sound bad...you freaked Mrs. Dub out though :o) hey...your b-day is like three days after mine! Cool! Stay safe, Sarge!

travis, thank you. that was well put and i wish i had said those exact words.

Travis for sure had the best reply. DUB thanks for saying so. I believe we should all be appalled at all that is going on. I try to be a simple man and all Americans should be down right mad that all of us, black and white, have not made better advancements. I hear white people I work with talk like it is still the 60's or later and I hear black people who are just as bad. I for one judge someones character. Do the the work? Do they provide for family? Are they taking care of things? Perhaps I am too simple but it works for me. God bless the DUBS and God bless America.

Just a little noise coming from over there right now Be Safe
