08 February 2007, The question was asked.
The question was, "if you don't have weekends, why bother counting the days till the weekend?" Good question, next.
Just kidding. As of June 21, 2006 I count each and every day, count down, that is. MAJ F has a calendar on his office wall that he made. It has pictures of steaks and lobster tails. Each steak and each lobster represents a Friday in the year and each time he crosses out a steak or lobster we are one week closer to going home. As I've said before, we can't give exact dates but we will be home in time for July 4th, I hope.
The day was nice with some cloud coverage, but still nicer than the reports I'm getting from the States, except a few commenter's in California.
If anyone was scratching your head yesterday looking at the Pay Per Post ad I did, well, I decided since I've seen several of you doing it, and claiming you're making money at it, I thought I could give it a try and use that money to buy that nifty Nikon camera I mentioned a few posts ago. If I do real good, maybe Mrs. Dub can get that diamond she mentioned. I won't try to kill you with them, maybe just one or two a day.
I just came from another soldier reenlisting. SGT G. reenlisted this afternoon for another 6 years. As you remember, I did mine on July 4th here at Camp Phoenix. We have seen quite a few soldiers do this during the deployment. SGT G is even more special in the sense that he doesn't receive a bonus for reenlisting, he's just doing it because he believes in what he is doing and he still enjoys it. I told him I felt like a lady of the night because I did get a bonus for mine. I'm not sure if this helped him or not, but since it wasn't a factor in his decision, I don't think it mattered. Everything else is going pretty good here. Be safe and have a great day.

Greetings from chilly central Ohio...it was 0 degrees F. when I let the dogs (two rat terriers) out at 7:30 a.m.
I saw your blog link on my cousins blog....wanted to check it out and say THANK YOU!
Thank you for serving our country and for protecting us and for keeping us free.
I will keep you in my prayers. Be safe and God speed.

Hey, Sarge, I don't see anything wrong with counting your days and weekends. I think any time you wake up it's a good thing, and counting your days is another way of counting blessings, don't you think?

And about the Pay Per Post stuff - it's your blog, so do with it what you will. If it's something we think is interesting, we'll read. If not, we'll skip and go on. No big deal.

In my family, re-enlistment always seemed like a given. When someone didn't consider doing it (with or without the bonus), it was an anomaly. Everyone needs to do what's best for themselves and their families, though. Thanks for serving, and thanks for your re-commitment.

Keep safe.

I'm glad you've found a way to prosper from your blogging. By the way, did you realize that Valentine's Day is Feb. 14th (hint hint) just in case you wanted to send your Sweetheart (that would be me) a little something (or a big something). You've got time to go the PX, order on-line or get to the post office. This will be yet another "special day" that you will owe me when you get home (he he). P.S. You will need to be home in time to mow the lawn, or else you're buying me a new riding lawnmower - I prefer you! Hurry, your wasting time on my gift!

I saw your name on Gracie's blog and then I pull up your profile and your from Oklahoma! I haven't run into too many bloggers from OK, even if you are over seas.

I would count days too. My dad is Navy on Tinker at the moment (we are waiting to hear if and when he goes to Iraq again) We kept a calander on the fridge each time he left and marked out days with big black X's.

I hope you come home soon. I'm sure your famiily misses you just as much as you miss them!

Hurry and get your blog approved - there's an opp for a 'military blog'!!! You'll have your camera in no time at all - I've earned an average of $14.30 per day...

Please tell SGT G. thank you for me. It's guys like him that keep our military strong and, no offense to you or anyone else who receives a bonus, it's always nice to hear that there are some who do it because it's something that they really want to do.

As for the steaks and lobsters, may they be consumed quickly!

Well, there you go! That bonus is one of those "obscene amenities" ol' Doody Butthead (William Arkin)was talking about! NOT!
Please thank Sgt.G for me!!!
I only visited here once and I'm back for seconds and will be back again.
Oh, better hurry off to the PX, quick! That lady's waiting!!!

RE Bonus, in my day it did not mean much, $2,000 max in 20 years.
It is a little different today.

to quote Mr William M. Arkin

"So, we pay the soldiers a decent wage, take care of their families, provide them with housing and medical care and vast social support systems and ship obscene amenities into the war zone for them, we support them in every possible way,"

Just in case you did not notice I am not over that jerk yet.......we love you guys and know the pay is too little and separation is too long. Here's hoping we have a big BBQ party on the 4th of July. Stay safe my friend.
