24 February 2007,
Another Fallen Comrade
Sgt Buddy "Doc" Hughie died this last week. He was in the Nuristan Province on a mission. On the return to base Sgt Hughie's convoy was ambushed. During the battle it was determined that the ANA soldiers at the front of the convoy where about to come under mortar attack. Sgt Hughie volunteered to go forward, away from cover to warn his brothers in arms.
As Brigadier General Douglas Pritt said tonight at the ceremony, "Sgt Hughie died the same way he lived his life, volunteering one more time to go forward." This was Sgt Hughie's second tour here in Afghanistan and he had mentioned going to Iraq with the Oklahoma National Guard next year, because he believed in the mission, believed in the purpose. This is the first lost of a soldier to combat for the 1-180th Infantry Battalion, 45th Infantry Brigade. He was well like, well respected and will be missed. May God bring comfort to his wife and 4 month old son. Our prayers are with them.

What a brave, caring man to go forward to warn his comrades, knowing he would be putting himself in danger. I feel so sorry for his family... they will suffer so much for his sacrifice toward making the world a safer place for us.

Another loss. My heart aches.

I posted about a loss here in our community.

I have a heavy heart this weekend, tempered by celebrating my beloved daughter's birthday.

Thanks again for your service. Stay safe.

I sit here, safe at home with my family and feel guilty that I am no longer in the service. I am medically unable to serve any more, but that is small consolation. I feel guilty that there are people out there like you guys, fighting the fight while I sit here safe. But it sounds sometimes like I am in the minority. Too often the media sounds off in its mindlessness, making noises like what you all are doing means nothing.
I beg to differ. The traitors in the media and the left will be proven wrong again. There are plenty like me that appreciate your sacrifices and hardships. You have my sincerest condolences for the loss of your comrade. My heart goes out to his family.
Keep safe.

Every time I see one of these posted my throat gets hot and my eyes well up. It breaks my heart. We love you guys and gals and there's no way we can ever thank you enough for having the strength of spirit and heart to stay the course.
May God hold St. Hughie's family in His hands and comfort them as only He can.
~~~Blessings~~~
